Types of Business Visas in Australia

There are several different types of business visas available for those looking to migrate to Australia. Each type of visa has its own set of requirements, so it is important to understand the criteria before applying. The two main types of business visas are the Business Innovation & Investment visa and the Business Talent visa.

The Business Innovation & Investment visa (subclass 188) is for those who wish to establish or manage a new or existing business in Australia, as well as those looking to invest in an Australian state or territory. This type of visa requires applicants to hold a designated investment of at least $A1.5 million in an eligible business or investment, and have a minimum of three years’ experience managing businesses.

The Business Talent visa (subclass 132) is for those who wish to own and manage their own business, as well as investors looking to invest in Australia. This type of visa requires applicants to demonstrate their business management skills, as well as own and manage an eligible business or investment in Australia. Applicants must also have a designated investment of at least $A1.5 million and hold a senior managerial position in the business for two years before applying.

Visa Application Process

The visa application process for business migration in Australia is different from other visa types. Applicants must first meet the criteria for one of the two main types of business visas – the Business Innovation & Investment visa or the Business Talent visa.

Once you have determined which type of visa you are eligible for, you will need to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI). This is an online form that must be completed and lodged with the Department of Home Affairs. The EOI will include information such as your personal profile, your business or investment activity, your experience in managing businesses, and any family members who will accompany you on the visa.

Once your EOI has been submitted, you will receive an invitation to apply. This will contain details of the visa and provide you with a 60-day window in which to submit the necessary documents and complete your visa application.

Approximate Timeline for Visa Outcome

Once you have submitted your visa application, it can take up to 8 months for a decision to be made. This timeframe can vary depending on the type of visa, the complexity of your application and how many applications are ahead of yours in the processing queue.

It is important to note that this timeframe only applies once you have received your invitation to apply. There is no guarantee when you will receive an invitation so it is best to be prepared for a long wait.
